Sweet Treats

We've had a cool summer here in Girdwood. And by cool I mean 60 degrees. But not so cool that the berries have not flourished. So last week, on a misty day, we sought out the huckleberries. For those who don't know, Girdwood is in a valley, surrounded by the Chugach National Forest. There are many trails that have berry bushes growing on either side. The trick is to find a great spot for berry picking and then (shhhh) don't tell anyone where your secret stash of berries are located. We picked what we needed to add to our homemade ice cream but left enough for the bears.

as a scooper at Mike's Ice Cream, my favorite were the fresh huckleberry shakes!

Wow! before reading your post I thought the ice cream photo was from a professional cookbook. Your presentation is superb. Must have tasted good too. Glad it is warm enough to eat ice cream.
