i think we're going to make it!
yep, after about a good four full days straight (maybe more like six but with my sister and i working a day or two in the middle) we've sewed the squares together and the sashings between the squares and the border around the squares and the border around the border and the whole time ironing before and after each sewing session and double checking and redouble checking and so forth. i must say no one is perfect and that includes sierra and i and our sewing capabilities but we did the best we could, taking out as many stitches as we put in, well not quite, and reassuring each other "that has to be good enough". but ok, i don't mean to scare you, it's a quilt for grandma not a quilt for the fair and it really does look great. so after about four (+) individual trips to various fabric stores in portland we acquired the batting (warm natural cotton - very supple) and the backing (cream on cream floral print - very classy) and were able to see the end of the quilt in sight. my mom and sister started attaching the layers and tying (securing all three layers with thread). i helped my mom and we were able to finish half the quilt on monday, after many pin pricks. i bid the quilt and my mom farewell at four and left it in the most capable hands (i hope) and will not see either of them again until SUNDAY! so there you go, the story of the quilt! thanks for helping us make this happen, it's definitely a once in a lifetime experience, well for me anyway. and i can't wait to see grandma and everyone on sunday.
farewell,
heidi
ps. hopefully my mom will send me the pictures we took of the process so i can post them for everyone to see
